Business

Approximately 80 percent of Norway’s total export goes to the EU. The EEA Agreement gives Norway entry to the EU and the European market. In addition, it provides Norwegian actors with access to valuable EU programmes in several sectors. For Mid-Norway, this has great significance for industry and the internationalization process.

EU’s program cooperation

Horizon 2020 is the EU’s program for research and innovation, and runs from 2014-2020. One of the most important goals with this program is to establish a competitive business sector. In the run of seven years, 20% of the funds in the Horizon 2020 program section for a competitive business sector and solutions to Europe’s societal changes, will go to small and medium sized companies. The program also has its own SMB instrument which is customized for small and medium sized companies. Innovasjon Norge in Mid-Norway offers, through his participation in Enterprisse Europe Network (EEN), free advisory favors for companies which wish to seek support through this instrument. In addition, provide assistance with information about important conditions and regulations in the EU which Norwegian companies must adhere to through the EEA agreement. Click here for more information about EEN.

Norwegian companies can take part in multiple EU programs in the 2014-2020 period. The possibility in Horizon 2020 has already been mentioned, but also programs such as Eurostars, Creative Europe, Erasmus+, and Interreg, can be interesting for the business sector, when they emphasize coopperation across sectors. In Mid-Norway, in this context, it is highly relevant to strengthen the ties between the business sector, public management, and research, to build competence in EU project participation and secure competence transfer through sectors.
